In general, if salary scales are equal, I see no reason why Solicitor posts should not be included in those to which a "Legal Officer" may be appointed, though they are not so, I believe, in Malaya.

In Hong Kong, salary scales are, I understand, the but it is one of the few Colonies where professions are not fused in private practice, and a Solicitor could not therefore be appointed as Crown Counsel.

I see no reason, however, why Solicitors should net be appointed as legal officers on the same terms as Barristers, subject to the qualification that they would not be eligible for posting as Crown Council. I am not at all sure that it is not intended that Barristers should be no`
